Honnali: I am Nirmala w/o Umesh, residing at Honnali  taluk Davanagere district. I have studied upto 9^th std. My husband is a daily wage earner. I have two daughters. It was very difficult to meet the basic need of the family. When I came to know of the self employment training I was delighted to learn something. 

In June 2017, I joined tailoring class at Honnali organised with the support from SMSSS, Shivamogga.  I learnt to stitch various types of clothes like frocks, salwar, blouses, petticoats, sari falls, children’s dress and embroidery, etc. I also learnt how to use and maintain the tailoring machines like simple mechanisms of   repairing the machines, replacing the parts etc. I also underwent EDP and EAP trainings conducted by SMSSS. The trainings enlightened the participants on aspects like personal hygiene, health awareness, personality development, etc. I was also taught the soft skills on dealing with the public and good manners.               

After the completion of the course I purchased a tailoring machine through loan from the SHG. I used to earn reasonably good amount. So I employed 3 more women from the SHG and I brought 1 more machine. We take orders for school uniform, wedding garments, design blouses, Zigzag and Sari falls. Per month I earn Rs. 70,000/- gross profit from which I pay Rs. 30,000/- to employees and around Rs. 2,000/- for maintenance. I save Rs. 250 per month in the SHG.  I am happy and very grateful to SMSSS and Caritas India.
