Shimoga: Shimoga rural MLA Smt. Sharada Pooryanaik called upon the rural women to empower themselves through making the best use of all the support and trainings given by the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society (SMSSS)
She was speaking after the inaugurating the International Women’s Day Celebrations jointly organized by SMSSS, Global Education Society (GES) and Sthreebandhu Vividoddesha Souharda Sahakari Niayamitha (SVSSN) on Saturday, 08 March 2014 at Lagan Mandir, Shimoga
The women who were within four walls of the house are exhibiting the signs of being empowered in spite of the domination of men, she opined. Women are achieving incredible achievements in the society in spite of the prominence given to men. The Governments have been executing a number of programs for the empowerment of women. Women should make the best use of all these programs and projects of the Government and achieve empowerment, she said.
Rt. Rev Dr. Henry D’Souza, the President of SMSSS, stressed the need for women to pay attention to their integral health. They should always strive to avail government schemes and other benefits by being aware of their rights, he said.
Fr. Veeresh V Moras, the Executive Director of SMSSS called upon the women to empower themselves as a matter of their constitutional right. SMSSS has been capacitating the women to avail all the benefits as a matter of their right rather than seeing it as a mere charity from the government. All the programs of SMSSS for the poor are geared towards becoming masters of their own destiny rather than treating them as beneficiaries. There are thousands of case studies to prove this, he said.
The women exhibited a number of talents which included bamboo dance, drum beat dance, mono acting etc.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Henry D' Souza, the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Shimoga and the President of SMSSS presided over the event. Shimoga Urban MLA K B Prasanna Kumar, AICCC member Manjunath Bhandary, Ex Suda President Sathyanarayana Rao, Shimoga Mayor Kursheeda Bhanu, GES Secretary N Ramesh, SMSSS Vice President Rev Fr Felix J Noronha, Priyadarshini School Principal Sunitha Devi, Stribandhu President Precilla Martis were present on the occasion.
