Devangi, Thirthahalli, June 26, 2019: The Streebandhu Federation, Devangi in collaboration with Grama Panchayat, Devangi celebrated Environment Day on 26 June 2019 at the Grama Panchayat Hall by distributing 200 mango, guava fruits plants and sampige/champak flower plants to the members of Streebandhu Federation. Rev. Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto, the Director of SMSSS speaking on the occasion noted that it is not important to know how many plants one has planted but to take care of the plants one has planted. He also appreciated the whole hearted support of Grama Panchayat president and members and also of the forest department who have provided suitable place to plant the plants freely given by the Forest Department. More than 150 women who had participated in the programme decided to plants at least 2 plants and nurture them.
Mr P. R. Manjunath, Forest Range Officer, Thirthahalli range highlighted the need to plant more and more trees and said that the forest department is provided enough and more plants to people who are really interested to plant them and take care of them. Mr K. K. Ashok, the President of Grama Panchayat, Devangi praised the good work of SMSSS and said that the members of Devangi Grama Panchayat are always happy to extend full support for activities which benefit the common public.
The coordinator of the area, Mr Madhusudhan explained the purpose of the programme. The animator for the area Mrs Lucy Aranha toiled hard to organize the programme and collect plants from the department. The president of Streebandhu Federation, Devangi, Mrs Deepika presided over the programme.
