"The youth should dream big, work hard to achieve this dream and success will be theirs", said Mr. J R Lobo, the MLA of Mangalore. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘SAHODAYA’, a program organized by the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society – SMSSS on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee celebrations. It was a gathering of alumni/alumnae of ‘ICDP – Child Sponsorship Program’ and ‘Unnati – Shcolarship for Higher Education’ program of SMSSS. He motivated the students to aim high and strive hard to come up in life. He shared his own personal experience, the struggles he underwent to be successful in life. He was felicitated on the occasion for his yeomen service to the society then as a bureaucratic and now as a representative of the people.

Sr Veera, SRA, the former program coordinator of ICDP for successive 9 years at SMSSS called upon the students to remain ever grateful to SMSSS and their benefactors. It is now the turn of the students to extend their helping hand to other needy children, she appealed. She was felicitated for her hard work, guidance, unfailing commitment and laying a strong foundation for ICDP at SMSSS.

Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, the Bishop of Shimoga who presided over the program pressed upon the need of being grateful to God and the donors. The successful students should be the messengers of good work of SMSSS so that many may join their hands with SMSSS in reaching out to the most marginalized sections of the Society.

 

 

 

 

 

Fr Veeresh V Moras, the Executive Director of SMSSS introduced the institution of Local Child Sponsorship Program and called upon the successful students to donate their mite towards this cause. 260 ex ICDP and Unnati students participated in the day’s program which had lots of sharing, group discussion, cultural activities, spot games, and fellowship meal. All the participants were on the dance floor at the end of the day to the popular Bollywood numbers.

It is to be noted that 2863 children have benefited from ICDP, out of which 1551 have successfully completed their education and are well placed in the society throughout the world and the rest 1312 children are continuing their education. 235 students have availed 'Unnati – Scholarship for higher and professional education' out of whom 198 have completed their higher studies in various fields and the rest 37 are pursuing their education at present. Through NIOS and KOS, 1180 dropout students have completed their SSLC and are well placed in the society. More than 700 unemployed youth have undergone various skill trainings such as tailoring, plumbing, garment making, fashion designing, masonry, home appliance repair, motor rewinding etc.
