Shimoga, September 19, 2020: The family of Mr Yesudass and Mrs Anthoniamma is filled with joy and consolation to receive new lease of life through a permanent shelter which they lost due to the heavy rain and floods in August 2019. Carmelite Fathers of the Karnataka-Goa Province extended generous financial support to wipe the tears out from the eyes of the poor family which makes ends meet working in the Christian Cemetery at Sagar Road, Shimoga. Rev. Fr Jerome Moras OCD representing the Carmelite Fathers inaugurated the newly constructed house and handed over the key of the house to the beneficiaries consisting of Mr Yesudass, Mrs Anthoniamma and three children. Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, the Bishop of the Diocese of Shimoga blessed the house. Rev. Fr Stephen Albuquerque, the parish priest of Infant Jesus Church, Sharavathinagar, Shimoga and Rev. Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto, Director of SMSSS, Shimoga and the relatives and friends of the beneficiary family were present on the occasion.
The Bishop sincerely thanked the Provincial of the Carmelite Fathers for their Sacrifice and wished every success in the apostolate. The project was successfully implemented by SMSSS, Shimoga. Mr Yesudass’s family has thanked the Carmelite Fathers for their generosity.
In total SMSSS, through the generous support from the Archdiocese of Bangalore, Caritas India, New Delhi, Diocese of Shimoga, Carmelite Fathers and Karnataka Regional Conference of the Religious has supported the construction of 27 new houses and repair of 40 collapsed/damaged due to the floods in Shimoga in August 2019. Of the 27 newly constructed houses 14 are given to beneficiaries belonging to Hindu Community, while 09 are given to Muslim Community and 04 are given to Catholic Community.
