Chaitanya, Shimoga, October 17, 2023: The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society, Shimoga with the support from Sarji Hospital, Shimoga organised health awareness program and conducted free health checkup camp in Chaitanya on 17 November 2023.
The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society is in the 35th year of its glorious existence. The Streebandhu Multipurpose Souharda Cooperative Limited is completed 10 successful years of its service to all the members of the Cooperative. To mark these 2 events SMSSS and Streebandhu Cooperative are organising various community development programs at various places.
The health awareness program and health checkup camp was inaugurated by Dr Dhananjaya Sarji, the Managing Trustee of Sarji Hospital, Shimoga. In his inaugural speech Dr Sarji provided tips to maintain good health. He noted that daily walk between 3500 to 10,000 steps keeps everyone healthy. Following a healthy food habit, regular health checkup and reducing tension will help a person lead healthy life. In his presidential address, Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto, the Director of Chaitanya and Secretary of SMSSS thanked Dr Dhananjaya Saji and his team of doctors and nurses from Sarji Hospital for the generosity in conducting health checkup camps and distributing free medicine apart from giving awareness to SHG women in different places. He noted that money cannot buy good health and peace of mind. By following the suggestions given during health awareness programs, by undergoing regular health checkups and by receiving proper treatment at the initial stages when a serious sickness is detected will certainly reduce the risk of future complications. He urged everyone present to undergo regular health checkups.
Dr Vidya Santhosh, Senior Reproductive Medicine & Fertility Specialist, Sarji Fertility and Research Centre, Shimoga spoke about causes of infertility and the possible treatment. 35 participants underwent proper checkup and are following up with the treatment. She also explained about IVF and the procedure involved.
Dr Chandushree B.P., Obstetrics & Gynecology, Sarji Hospital explained in detail about the causes of Breast Cancer, Cancer Screening in Women, how one can self examine oneself and what are the treatments available. She also spoke about other types of cancers such as colon, cervical cancer, throat cancer, etc. The advice for all women participants was to undergo Pap smear test at least once in three years and regularly do the self examination of one’s breasts.
After the awareness session, Dr Chandushree B.P., Dr Vidya Santhosh, Dr Basavakumar, Dr Abhishek and Dr Siddarama conducted the health checkup. Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar and blood Hemoglobin level was checked before the health checkup. The prescribed medicines were distributed freely by Sarji Hospital. 250 people including children benefited from this camp.
On the same day, with the support from Idrishti Eye Hospital, Shimoga a free eye checkup camp was also organised in the premises of Chaitanya. 85 people underwent eye checkup. Those who were advised for further treatment were asked to visit the hospital. Spectacles were provided at a concessional rate.
Mr Jagadeesha K. H., the coordinator of SMSSS compered the program. Mr Vincent, the coordinator welcomed everyone. At 3.00 PM the health checkup camp ended. Everyone who benefited from the camp thanked the organizers and the management of Sarji Hopsital for this wonderful opportunity.
