Shimoga, January 19, 2025: The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society (SMSSS), the development arm of the Diocese of Shimoga, organized a follow up free health checkup camp along with the inauguration of Garment Making Training program at St. Anthony’s Church campus in Hosanagara.
This health camp was a collaborative effort involving the skilled Doctors and staff from Father Muller Medical College and Hospital, Kankanady, Mangalore. A dedicated team of 10 medical professionals provided services in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG), Orthopedic and ECG. Additionally, Health personnel from Hosanagara Government Hospital conducted Blood Pressure and Sugar level tests. In total 244 patients benefited from the medical services and free medicines were distributed to all attendees. Those needing further treatment were referred to Father Muller Hospital in Mangalore.
The inaugural program was presided over by Rev. Fr Pius D’Souza, director of SMSSS. In his address, he highlighted the organizations’s 35 years of service and emphasized the importance of access to quality healthcare for promoting healthier lives.
Chief guest Shree Abhinava Channabasava Mahaswami from Shree Sadananda Shivayogashrama in Moolegadde Mata, Hosanagara, in his inaugural speech he stressed that a healthy lifestyle and peaceful living significantly enhance overall well being . He praised SMSSS for the service to the society.
Chief guest Rev. Fr Simon Horta, Parish Priest of St Anthony’s Church Hosanagara emphasized the need to avoid junk food from a young age and adopt healthy eating habits to ensure good health. He also encouraged everyone to steer clear of a mechanical lifestyle and strive for stress free existence.
Dr Caroline Smitha from Father Muller Hospital shared insights into the hospital's facilities and the quality treatments offered at reasonable prices. She expressed gratitude to SMSSS for facilitating the health camp, which allowed the community to access these vital services.
The event concluded at 3.00 pm, marking a successful day of health awareness.
