Shimoga, 11 August 2019: You are well aware that the excessive rains and floods have caused tremendous damage to the livestock, homes and properties of thousands of people. Consequently hundreds are rendered homeless. The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society (SMSSS), the "development arm" of the diocese of Shimoga, is committed to provide a new lease of life to people whose houses are fully or partially damaged due to the recent deluge in Shimoga district. The following images and information would give you a clear picture of the damage caused and what SMSSS is really intending to do immediately as part of the rehabilitation work. At least 30 houses which are fully damaged need to be reconstructed and equally the same number needs to be repaired. The estimated cost of a simple but modest house is Rupees FIVE lakh. Partially damaged houses need to be repaired at the cost of Rs one to two lakhs. The economically poor, socially marginalized people who struggle hard to make the ends meet cannot shoulder this heaviest burden without the help from people of goodwill.
The director of SMSSS, Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto will personally monitor the rehabilitation work. Regular updates (once in 15 days) of the contribution received, the rehabilitation work undertaken and the progress made will be posted on this website.
