Shimoga, August 11, 2024: The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society, Shimoga, the “development arm” of the Diocese of Shimoga celebrated its Foundation Day today by organizing a mega free health check camp at Sacred Heart Church Campus, Shimoga. The health camp was conducted by the Doctors and staff of Father Muller Medical College and Hospital, Kankanady, Mangalore. A team of 53 medical personnel conducted various checkups, such as General Medicine, ENT, Dermatology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG), Orthopedic disorders, ECG, B.P, Sugar and Blood Test. For the patients free medicine was provided. 920 patients underwent different tests as the total number of tests conducted was 1800. Those who required further treatment are asked to visit Father Muller Hospital, Mangalore.
The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society came into existence on 11 August 1989. It has completed 35 glorious years serving the poor and the marginalised in the three civil districts of Shimoga, Chitradurga and Davanagere.
Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, the Bishop of the diocese of Shimoga and the President of The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society presided over the inaugural programme. He appreciated the service of Father Muller Hospital and thanked the team of doctors for their valuable time spent for our people.
Chief guest Dr Shree Basava Marulasidda Swamiji of Basava Kendra, Shimoga, in his inaugural speech expressed that it is gratifying to start the health checkup camp with full of passion through interfaith prayers. He called upon all the participants to move together with the feeling of being one in the society. Health is not an asset of any caste or religion, everyone should be conscious about health. He said, a person is considered healthy if physical and mental health is good. He appreciated the work done by SMSSS for the past 35 years for the development of the poor people.
Adam Raza Naeemi, Mudarris Markaz SaAda, Shimoga, one of the chief guests for this programme noted, it is apt that a mega health checkup camp is organized on the foundation day of the organization in which people irrespective of their caste, culture and religion are participating. He said that the work done by the organization for the people of all faiths is like a garden of peace that creates a friendly spirit.
Mr Anil Kumar S. Bhoomraddi, Additional Superintendent of Police, Shimoga district, who arrived as the chief guest for the program said that health is essential for everyone. Our wealth values nothing if our health is not good. He wished good for the organization which strives for the development of the oppressed people through more and more social service activities.
Dr Ujwal Suvarna from Father Muller Medical College Hospital briefed on the various facilities available in their hospital which are accessible for everyone.
Fr Pius D’Souza, the Director of SMSSS, briefed about the journey of SMSSS and its impact in uplifting the downtrodden to live a life with dignity. MCES Secretary Rev. Fr Dr Clifford Roshan Pinto and Sr Rita Shanthi Rebello SCB, Superior of Mary Immaculate Convent, Shimoga were present. Mr Manjunatha, Marketing Manager of Father Muller Medical College Hospital expressed gratitude for the grand success of the camp and well-knit arrangements.
SMSSS is ever grateful to the team of 53 medical personnel of Father Muller Medical College and Hospital, Kankanady, Mangalore for the immense service rendered to our people. We wish them excellence in their mission. All the patients and the general public appreciated the efforts of SMSSS and expressed their gratitude. The staff of SMSSS and volunteers worked tirelessly for the success of the camp. The camp which began at 7.00 AM concluded with a happy note at 6.00 PM. The joy of the foundation day of the organization was expressed by cutting the cake and sharing it with all the participants. On this joyous occasion the organization also wished Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ a very happy birthday. His birthday which falls on 15 August was celebrated by cutting the birthday cake.
