The Shimoga Multipurpose Society Service Society, a social action wing of the Diocese of Shimoga, organized one-day camp for sponsored students and a workshop for their parents at Mary Immaculate Church campus on October 6, 2024.
Rev. Fr Lancy Bartholomeo D’Souza, parish priest of Mary Immaculate Church, New Town, Bhadravathi, along with resource person Mr. Jagadish KH and other guests on the dais, inaugurated the program. In his inaugural address, Rev. Fr Lancy D’Souza emphasized the responsibility of parents and beneficiary students in creating a healthy, happy society where all live in harmony and peace. He stressed that this initiative must begin with individuals and families.
The inauguration was creatively planned by Mrs. Pramila and Mrs. Parimala, field staff of SMSSS. Their innovative planning attracted many and received much admiration.
Fr. Pius D’Souza, director of SMSSS addressed the students about their initiative to save one rupee to help less privileged children in their neighborhood. This initiative caught everyone’s attention and was widely admired. The students promised to reach out to less privileged children.
Mr. Jagadish conducted a session on self-confidence, explaining its importance for both children and their parents. His session was highly appreciated. Mrs. Anie Filallo, the coordinator of the sponsorship project, along with her team, conducted various sessions and group dynamics activities.
The camp and the workshop were highly appreciated. At the end, there was an interactive session where parents and children shared their views on the camp. There were 153 children and 89 parents were present for the program.
Achievements of Beneficiary Students:
- Yashas N: Won 1st place in Kho-Kho (district level), receiving a certificate and a gold medal.
- Hruthik I: Won 1st place in Karate (district level), earning a certificate and a gold medal.
