The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society® (SMSSS), under the Integrated Child Development Programme, conducted a one-day camp for beneficiary children at Shikripura on October 3, 2024, along with parents' meetings. All the beneficiary children from 1st grade to degree level and their parents participated in the camp.
Bro. Bonaventure, the regent at Little Flower parish and in charge of the boarding house along with the Director of SMSSS, Fr Pius D'Souza, resource person for the day Mr. Jagadeesh, and Mrs. Anie, the Project Coordinator inaugurated the camp and parents' seminar. Bro Bonaventure in his inaugural address welcomed all to the premises and wishes them all success for the day's events.
The camp was inaugurated in a unique way by having the children apply colors to an empty drawing sheet, creating a colorful picture. The inaugural theme was "Universities cannot teach as many lessons as life experiences." It was also emphasized that, as experienced people say, "Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge, and knowledge makes you a great personality."
There were 162 students and 123 parents who participated actively in the day's events.
Rev. Fr. Pius D'Souza addressed parents on the importance of attending school meetings. He emphasized the crucial role parents play in nurturing their children and encouraged them to foster a supportive environment that promotes personal growth and happiness. Fr. Pius inspired parents to envision their children's futures, motivating them to teach the value of saving and helping others, suggesting a simple practice of saving Re. 1 per day.
Speaking to the children, Fr. Pius highlighted the significance of savings in their lives. For the 8th grade and above, he urged students to set clear goals and share them during the upcoming summer camp. This sparked excitement among the children, who eagerly began discussing their aspirations with their parents. As a result, many parents approached the ICDP coordinator to explore how they could best support their children's dreams. They were guided to meet their individual needs.
Mr. Jagadish, the resource person, conducted a session for parents on the topic of "Self-Confidence." Using a Power Point presentation with clearly outlined key points, he helped the parents understand the importance of building self-confidence. The session emphasized that self-confidence is essential for leading a respectful and fulfilling life in society. Parents were encouraged to reflect on their own confidence levels and consider how they could foster this quality not only in themselves but also in their children, promoting a positive environment for personal growth and resilience. Parents expressed their gratitude to Rev. Fr. Pius D'Souza and Mr. Jagadish for the valuable sessions.
Mrs. Anie Fiallow informed the parents to follow the ICDP rules and regulations and to live a disciplined life, which would enable the children to do the same. Mrs. Anie conducted a session for the children, motivating them to build self-confidence and live life happily.
